Lae schools carnival set for feast of rugby

THE Lae schools rugby carnival is on again at Scrum Oval tomorrow, says development officer Robin Tarere. The carnival is the fourth so far with schools in the city, Bulolo, and Huon Gulf participating. Tarere said the Supporters Club of Rugby Union in Morobe (Scrum) was established in 1992. He said the programme was now branching out to schools in Bulolo, Markham, and Huon Gulf. Tarere said tomorrow’s carnival involved Under-12s to U16s. Secondary schools (U17s and U18s) will host theirs next week. “We try to cover all the districts in Morobe but it’s hard to venture into some of them.” The programme is fortunate to have the support of business houses like Lae Biscuit Company, Prima Smallgoods and Coca-Cola. “The support of business houses in the city has been enormous for the development of junior rugby over the years,” Tarere said. “Lae Biscuit Company has been with us for the last 15 years. “I’d like to thank Prima Smallgoods for their support. “Coca-Cola has been supporting the programme for last 20 years. “Their support is vital to junior development in rugby in the country.” Tarere said without their support, the carnival would not have been possible over the years.
